Today, Congressman Ritchie Torres, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz, and Councilman Eric Dinowitz announced that Fine Fare Fresh Supermarket will be opening a new location at the Skyview Shopping Center, located at 5661 Riverdale Avenue, preserving critical access to fresh food for residents in the surrounding Riverdale and northwest Bronx communities.

The announcement comes after months of concern from residents following the closure of a Key Food supermarket at the site. With few nearby grocery options, families feared the loss would deepen food access challenges in an area already underserved by full-service supermarkets.

After hearing directly from constituents about these concerns, the Bronx electeds personally engaged Braun Management, the company that manages the Skyview Shopping Center, to press for the retention of a full-scale supermarket at the location and to underscore the community’s need for reliable, affordable access to groceries.

As a result of those discussions, Braun Management has secured Fine Fare Fresh as a new tenant, ensuring the space remains dedicated to a supermarket rather than being converted to non-food retail. The new supermarket is expected to bring fresh produce, everyday essentials, and local jobs to the area, reinforcing Skyview Shopping Center’s role as a vital community hub.

“We at Fine Fare Fresh Supermarket are proud to announce our new store coming soon to 5661 Riverdale Ave in the Bronx,” said Miguel Luna, Operator for Fine Fare Fresh Supermarket. “We look forward to serving the Riverdale community with a fresh new supermarket featuring a large assortment of products in our newly remodeled store. Please look out for our grand opening coming soon.”

“As the management team, we are very pleased to be moving forward with a new tenant at Skyview Shopping Center and to once again have this space serve the community as a full-service supermarket,” said Mendy Braun of Braun Management. “We are grateful to Congressman Ritchie Torres and our local elected officials for their engagement and for consistently advocating on behalf of neighborhood residents. We look forward to welcoming Fine Fare Fresh and to the positive impact this investment will have for Riverdale and the surrounding area.”

“This outcome is about listening to the community and delivering,” said Rep. Torres. “When residents raised alarms about losing their neighborhood supermarket, we made it clear to management that this space needed to continue serving families with access to fresh, affordable food. I am proud that Fine Fare Fresh will be opening its doors and that this community will not be left behind.”

“The announcement of a new supermarket coming to the Skyview Shopping Center is a monumental and long-awaited development for the Riverdale Community, as Key Food was the only supermarket serving this area,” said Borough President Gibson. “Its closure has already affected hundreds of residents, and our offices have been adamant in advocating for a replacement to ensure that residents are not further burdened by the loss of this essential service. Thank you to KF Braun Management for listening to the voices of Riverdale residents and patrons and for working toward a solution that meets the community’s needs. Our offices look forward to collaborating with the new supermarket owner and to the positive impact this will have on our Riverdale community.”

“Congressman Ritchie Torres, Council Member Eric Dinowitz, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, the Riverdale Main Streets Alliance, and I, advocated tirelessly to ensure that an appropriate replacement was found for the Skyview Shopping Center, and I am thrilled that Fine Fare Fresh has agreed to move into this space,” said Assemblymember Dinowitz. “I’ve remained firm in my belief that the residents of Riverdale deserve affordable and accessible groceries in the Skyview Shopping Center. We appreciate Braun Management’s consideration of the concerns shared by elected officials and community members. A supermarket at the Skyview Shopping Center is vital to the community, and we look forward to welcoming this new business to Riverdale.”

“The loss of a grocery store at the Skyview Shopping Center left a real gap for families and neighbors who depend on affordable, fresh food close to home,” said Councilman Dinowitz. “The opening of Fine Fare Fresh restores an essential service for thousands of residents and represents a meaningful step toward improving the quality of life in our community. I want to thank Braun Management for their continued commitment to the neighborhood and for working with us throughout these past few months to secure a tenant that truly meets our local needs. I’m also grateful to Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, Congressman Ritchie Torres, and Borough President Vanessa Gibson for their partnership and persistence in getting this across the finish line. Access to reliable grocery options isn’t a luxury—it’s a basic necessity, and this reopening is a tangible win for the people who live here.

“This is a big win. I’m proud to work with elected officials who produced tangible results for the community,” said Virginia Krompinger, community leader. “I will continue to work with them and our party officials on this and any other way to support our community.”

“North Riverdale deserves quality supermarkets,” said Johanna Edmondson, Riverdale Main Streets Alliance Board Member. “We are stronger together as one community standing up for our seniors and families, because they deserve better.”
