Rep. Ritchie Torres Joined Leaders in Denouncing Trump Administration’s Actions Against Puerto Rico
On Monday, August 11th, Congressman Ritchie Torres joined community leaders to denounce the Trump administration’s removal of five members of Puerto Rico’s Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB)—a move aimed at installing partisan loyalists who will prioritize Wall Street bondholders over the people of Puerto Rico.
The FOMB, established by Congress under the PROMESA Act in 2016, was intended to restore Puerto Rico’s fiscal stability. Rep. Torres has long opposed the Board as anti-democratic and has introduced the TRUST for Puerto Rico Act to limit its presence on the island.
Trump’s latest actions threaten to impose higher electricity and service costs on Puerto Ricans while enriching bondholders at their expense.
