In response to the Treasury Department’s plan to unveil a $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump’s likeness, Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) introduced TRUMP (The Restrict Ugly Money Portraits) Act of 2025 to prohibit any president from issuing currency or coins bearing their own likeness and to require that U.S. money continue to feature only the deceased. Rep. Torres was joined by Congressman Sam Liccardo (CA-16) as an original co-sponsor.

“America’s money should only feature big beautiful faces—not big ugly faces,” said Rep. Torres.

“Like tattoos, presidents don’t always age well…regardless of anyone’s political party or viewpoint. Donald Trump discovered a loophole in U.S. law to put himself on our coins. The TRUMP Act closes it. If you can’t appear on the U.S. dollar while you’re alive, you shouldn’t appear on any U.S. coins. Even North Korea doesn’t do that,” said Rep. Liccardo.
