The INVEST in America Act will create good-paying jobs modernizing and rebuilding our roads, bridges, transit, rail, and drinking water and wastewater systems

WASHINGTON  – Today,  Rep. Torres applauded House passage of the “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act,” which includes funding for transit projects in the South Bronx. Rep. Torres fought to ensure the projects were included in the INVEST in America Act, which makes transformational investments in America’s highways, roads, bridges, transit, rail, and water infrastructure to create jobs, modernize our infrastructure and reduce carbon pollution. This legislation puts some of the key pieces of President Biden’s infrastructure vision into legislative text.

The projects submitted by Rep. Torres that were included in the legislation:

Parkchester-E.177 St / Pelham Line (6 Train)

Location of Project: CD-15, Parkchester & E 177th Street, Bronx, NY

Project Sponsor: MTA-NYCT

Requested Amount: $15,000,000.00

Del Valle Square/Crames Square Traffic, Safety, and Plaza Improvements

Location of Project: Hunts Point, Bronx, at Del Valle Square (Bruckner Blvd/Hunts Point Ave) in Congressional District 15.

Project Sponsor: NYC Department of Transportation

Amount Requested: $4,870,000.00

Safe Routes to School – Bronx

Location of Project: Four schools across Southwest Bronx, in Congressional District 15.

Project Sponsor: NYC Department of Transportation

Amount Requested: $1,682,000.00

“The projects that I advocated for are key to addressing the systemic racism and inequality in the Bronx’s transportation systems, and develop safer and better connected communities. Lack of investment in infrastructure has contributed to poor health outcomes and devastated low-income neighborhoods and communities of color throughout our nation, and now we are on track to reverse years of disinvestment,” said Rep. Torres “I am grateful to the work of our local advocates and I look forward to seeing these projects become a reality and positively impact the lives of those who live in and commute through the South Bronx. By passing the INVEST in America Act, we are on the right track to create economic opportunity for all in the 21st century and beyond.”
