WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres (NY-15) today issued the following statement upon his appointment by House Democratic Leader U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to serve on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party for the 118th Congress:

“I am honored to be appointed to the Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.

Tensions between the U.S. and China, the two superpowers of the 21st Century, are at historic highs. Managing those tensions is the central economic, diplomatic, and military challenge of our time. The select committee has the potential to be one of the most consequential committees in the history of Congress.”
