WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Ritchie Torres (NY-15) tonight issued the following statement after a New York City grand jury indicted former President Donald Trump on criminal charges, making him the first former President to ever be indicted in American history:

“The indictment of former President Donald Trump by a grand jury of his peers sends a powerful message to the rest of the world – the United States is governed not by the rule of men but by the rule of law and that no one, not even a former President, is above the law.

I encourage former President Trump to cooperate fully with the criminal investigation and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and would remind him and his supporters there is absolutely no place for political violence or interference in our criminal Justice system.”
