Youth Advisory Council 2026-27

Program Overview

Congressmember Ritchie Torres is pleased to announce the first-ever NY-15 Youth Advisory Council for the 2026-27 school year.

Eligibility

The application is open to students in grades 9-12 living or attending school within New York’s 15th Congressional District.

Application Requirements

Applicants should prepare the following application materials:

    • Completed Application Form with basic information and three short-answer questions, listed below:
        • List all clubs and activities, including any leadership positions

        • Why are you interested in being a part of the NY-15 Youth Advisory Council? (200 words max)

        • Why are you passionate about serving your community? (200 words max)

    • Consent Form: Applicants under 18 must submit a completed parent/guardian consent form with their application.

Application Timeline

    • Applications Open: August 15th

    • Applications Close: September 21, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

When will there be an update on application status?
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, so expect to hear back after your application is submitted.

Will there be interviews?
Yes. The most competitive applicants will have a brief interview with Rep. Torres’s staff. Students will be asked a few questions and will also have the opportunity to ask their own.

How often will the council meet?
There will be ten scheduled meetings per academic year. Dates are to be determined, but most likely on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the evening. Students are expected to attend all meetings.

How long is the term?
Students will serve a one-year term for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Will the meetings be in person?
Meetings will be a mix of in-person and virtual sessions. In-person meetings will be held at 540 East Fordham Rd, Bronx, NY 10458, Suite 2A, and at other Bronx locations.
