Congressman Ritchie Torres Introduces Resolution Condemning Tucker Carlson’s Interview of Darryl Cooper
Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) has introduced a resolution condemning Tucker Carlson’s decision to give a platform to Darryl Cooper, a Holocaust revisionist whose views perpetuate harmful falsehoods, foster antisemitism, and undermine the fight against hate and bigotry in a September 2 interview.
As the Anti-Defamation League said in the immediate aftermath of the interview’s release, “Tucker Carlson’s praise of Nazi apologist Darryl Cooper is an insult to the memory of the 6,000,000 Jews who were murdered by Hitler’s Nazi regime.”
Tucker Carlson is a leading figure in the conservative movement and Republican Party. In August, he delivered a 10-minute speech in support of Donald Trump’s nomination for president on the final night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since the Cooper interview, Carlson has interviewed leading figures in the GOP such as Donald Trump Jr and JD Vance, as well as conspiracy theorists such as RFK Jr. and Alex Jones.
The conclusion of the resolution reads as follows:
“Resolved, That the House of Representatives—
(1) strongly condemns Tucker Carlson’s decision to give a platform to Holocaust revisionist views for which perpetuating harmful falsehoods, fostering antisemitism, and undermining the fight against hate and bigotry;
(2) strongly condemns Holocaust revisionist Darryl Cooper for disingenuously mischaracterizing the meticulously detailed plans by Nazi officials to create an artificial famine and deliberately starve millions of Eastern European Jews, Poles, Slavs, and Indigenous minorities;
(3) commits to continue to raise awareness and act to eradicate the continuing scourge of antisemitism in the United States and abroad;
(4) honors the legacy of the survivors of the Holocaust; and
(5) recommits to combating all forms of antisemitism.”
On the resolution, Rep. Torres released the following statement:
“Tucker Carlson has immense influence on the political right. His decision to platform the Hitler apologia of Daryl Cooper is too dangerous to be ignored. Selective outrage against antisemitism is not a virtue but a bias.
“Congress often speaks through resolutions; Congress should speak with one voice against the profound disservice Tucker Carlson has done, not only to the Jewish community but also to the truth. Congress should stand for the proposition that America should have zero tolerance for antisemitism; zero-tolerance for Holocaust denial and Hitler apologia.”
