Today, Congressman Ritchie Torres (NY-15) held a press conference in the Bronx to highlight the consequences of an impending lapse in WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children) funding tied to the federal shutdown fight and to call for immediate action to protect benefits for mothers, infants, and young children in the Bronx and across the country. “The government shutdown puts thousands of New York City families at immediate risk of losing access to WIC,” said Cassaundra Howell, Chief Operating Officer of Public Health Solutions. “Congress must act now to protect the health of our city’s mothers and children and ensure they have access to the food and nutrition resources they need to thrive.”
